Societal factors of modernization, automation and the use of technology in all aspects of life have transformed lifestyles to the point of almost complete inactivity.
For children and youth, this means that physical development and ability is compromised and there is a decreased readiness for learning and consequently, lowered overall potential.
For adults and older adults, this means that there is an increased chance of chronic diseases, reduced fitness levels, and more fatigue when accomplishing daily and work-related tasks. In the longer-term, one’s health, independence and sense of self-worth could be compromised.
The tide needs to be turned on these trends. It is critical to build awareness of the issues and inform all individuals and organizations of the potential they have to change their lives toward healthy, active living.
