FREDERICTON (GNB) – Rates paid to foster caregivers increased by 10 per cent as of April 1, Families and Children Minister Stephen Horsman announced today.

“Foster families serve as caregivers and role models,” said Horsman. “They show love, compassion and support to children and youth in need of a home and a family when they are unable to live with their own family. We recognize the hard work and dedication shown by foster families to children in their care, and are pleased to provide additional support for families caring for children and youth in their homes.”

Foster families often incur a number of expenses that are greater than the amount they are reimbursed.

The last rate increase to foster families was in 2014.

“This is great news for foster families in New Brunswick,” said Raymond Englehart, president of the New Brunswick Foster Families Association. “Fostering is a very rewarding experience, and this funding helps to ensure that these individuals and families are able to continue providing care and support to the children and youth living with them.”
