Motor Vehicle Inspectors

Motor Vehicle Inspectors with Highway Safety Enforcement are peace officers and journeyman mechanics. They are certified as both truck and transport service technicians as well as automotive service technicians. They are responsible for ensuring motor vehicle safety and compliance with the Periodic Motor Vehicle Inspection Manual (PMVI) (National Safety Code Standard 11) and the proper safety inspection of motorized vehicles. They also enforce various provisions under the Motor Vehicle Act as they relate to motor vehicle safety and liaise with the automotive industry regarding vehicle specification and standards

Motor Vehicle Inspectors are in regular contact with inspection station licensees and conduct on-site visits to ensure all guidelines are being followed and all requirements related to space, equipment and staff are met. Inspectors also review and investigate complaints brought forward by inspection stations and by members of the public.
