New Brunswick's Police Forces must be representative of the ethnic and cultural diversity within the mosaic of citizens residing in this Province and have appropriate female representation. As well, the Official Languages Act mandates the delivery of services by police to be bilingual, English and French.
There are nine municipal/regional police forces in New Brunswick serving 13 municipalities and employing 471 officers. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) is 902 members-strong in New Brunswick.
