Are you a New Brunswicker who is unable to read standard print due to a vision impairment, a physical disability or a learning disability? Are you interested in accessing reading material in alternative formats such as DAISY and MP3 audiobooks on CD, braille, described video, e-audio, e-text or e-braille?

We can offer you a wealth of alternative format collections for all ages with various access options: your local public library, direct download or shipment to your mailing address. If you are interested in receiving this service, please fill out this registration form. A member of our staff will contact you by phone to complete your registration. Eligibility

A print disability prevents or inhibits a person from reading standard print. You are eligible to access library materials restricted to people with print disabilities (e.g. DAISY books) through the public library if you have a print disability due to a vision impairment, learning disability or physical disability in accordance with the definition provided for “perceptual disability” in the Canadian Copyright Act. The type of disability is collected to measure the use of our services by patrons and to better plan services based on user demographics.

A visual disability: severe or total impairment of sight or the inability to focus or move one's eyes

A physical disability: the inability to hold or manipulate a book.

A learning disability: an impairment relating to comprehension.

Agreement

I acknowledge that I have a perceptual disability as defined under the Canadian Copyright Act and that I may be called upon to provide proof of such disability from a competent authority. Competent authority is defined to include doctors of medicine, ophthalmologists, optometrists, registered nurses, registered therapists, professional staff of hospitals, institutions and public agencies (e.g., vision rehabilitation specialist, social workers, case workers, counsellors, teachers and school district superintendents). A CNIB client number will be accepted as a competent authority. Library materials restricted to people with print disabilities (e.g. DAISY talking books) are for my personal use only. I will not copy, share or redistribute these materials.
