Cancer screening aims to detect cancer early by testing people who do not show any signs or symptoms of the disease. In New Brunswick, there are three organized cancer screening programs in place focused on improving prevention, early detection and screening of Colon, Breast, and Cervical.

  • When colon cancer is diagnosed at an early stage, the five-year survival ratio is over 90%.
  • Breast cancer is the most common cancer diagnosed among Canadian women, and it is the second leading cause of cancer deaths among women
  • It is estimated that over 90% of cervical cancers can be prevented or cured when detected in the early stages with regular Pap tests.
