Future GNB

Diego Agustin Gonzalez Molina , Winter 2025
"For me to be part of the public service meant to develop a passion for the community I am in and find ways of improving the lives of all who construct it. It opened my eyes to endless ways in which it influences its community and the effects it can have.
For me to be part of Future GNB was to be provided with a series of opportunities that have allowed me to grow as a professional. It has put me in different scenarios that have allowed me to be prepared for the diverse needs that arise from working in the public service. It has also provided me with contacts that are unimaginable at this early age and has placed me in roles of extreme importance for the province of New Brunswick. More importantly, it opened the doors for this post-studies chapter in my life, where, thanks to them, I will attend to the needs of the province through a placement in the Premier's office.

"Being part of public service means interacting with people and making real-time changes. You didn't just contribute to the sales of a company instead you played a part, amongst many others, to start a chain of changes through research, aiding the Government of New Brunswick in using Data-driven decisions, while simultaneously learning how to.
As the program's name suggests (Future GNB), it helped pave the way for my professional journey. The network I built and the competencies I developed were invaluable. The experience also provided insights into my leadership style and clarified my preferences regarding different topics that I got to explore this summer. As a student project manager for BuildGNB, my first ever full-time job, I was fortunate to be treated both as a trusted employee and as a trainee. This dual role was incredibly enriching and confirmed my passion for certain aspects of the field while reshaping my understanding of others which means a lot to me as someone going into HR, and for my continuous learning & growth process.

"Being a person who has spent over 20 years in the private sector, experiencing how the public sector works was a great opportunity. I did struggle with all the acronyms in the beginning. Still, it was so fulfilling to see the interconnectivity of units and roles and how what every individual does is geared towards positively affecting New Brunswickers. The Future GNB program was a great opportunity to network with fellow GNB participants and get to know GNB overall. The Rapid-fire session was particularly enjoyable, and I also had the opportunity to attend several Roundtable sessions, which were very insightful and helped me see how government works from different perspectives. However, the highlight of the program was the virtual career fair, which was well-organized and very impactful . "

"As someone born and raised in rural New Brunswick, being part of civil service was an opportunity to give back to the province I love so dearly. Coming to work with an understanding that what I was doing would help my family, my neighbors, and anyone else who decides to call NB their home was so motivating; every day, I showed up wanting to do better and be better for them!
The Future GNB program has given me many amazing opportunities, from working independently on a research project with a small team to networking with many inspirational and knowledgeable GNB employees. "I am grateful for my transformative journey as a Policy Support Analyst in public service and my first international work experience. This internship has been a unique opportunity where I gained experience and grew with an amazing team and our esteemed director of Strategic Projects and Analysis at JPS. The highlight of my internship consisted of working on critical but often overlooked policy issues affecting New Brunswickers' well-being. "I believe that no matter what role you are in within the public service, you are a valuable asset to both the government entity and to the citizens of your province. To be able to serve and implement positive changes to my community, whether big or small is a great honor which motivates me every day.
The Future GNB program really sheds light to all the opportunities available in the province that I was not previously aware of. Being part of Future GNB, I had an epiphany - perhaps I will stay in the province after I graduate and be where all the action is happening. And while the province is growing and changing, you are also growing alongside it. What is better than watching your vision of a wonderful province prosper while the province is supporting your growth too. "

"I am grateful to have been a part of the Future GNB program. This program opened my eyes to all the areas of government and how career opportunities are endless with the help of managers who truly want to see you succeed. It allows students an opportunity to get a foot in the door and start taking charge of their own careers. In just my term alone, many, if not all of the students made connections that opened doors to an extended work term or talk of future employment, which is huge as it can be challenging to find work while in university. This program is a step in the right direction for GNB and I think it will help a lot of people understand what a rewarding experience working for government can be."
