Piping Plover

The Piping Plover is a small shore bird that nests on beaches. It has been classified as an Endangered Species because of its low and declining population numbers, coupled with the threats of the human intrusion, predation and increased intensity/frequency of storms during the nesting season.

Butternut Canker

Valued for the rich colour of its wood, it is now in decline and in danger of disappearing from Canada due to the spread of the Butternut Canker. The canker is believed to have been introduced from outside North America.

Maritime Ringlet

A butterfly that spends its entire life cycle in coastal marshes, this species is endangered due to its very limited distribution (Bay of Chaleur marshes) and its vulnerability to the effects of climate change.
