A Written Authorization for the removal of a quarriable substance from a Crown quarry site is generally intended for one-time private use applications (i.e. a landowner is looking for backfill for their yard, or to level an area for a garage, or to fill in potholes or other driveway repairs…etc.), not for commercial use. Application is made at an Natural Resources and Energy Development District Ranger Office. If an application is approved by District Staff, the written authorization is typically issued within a few days of application, if not the same day.

Information pertaining to a written authorization;

  • applicant shall pay non-refundable application fee ($10.00/quarry site), at the time of issue
  • applicant shall pay non-refundable royalty ($0.25/tonne) on the total amount of material requested/approved, at the time of issue
  • applies to extraction from existing quarry sites only (not a proposed new site)
  • maximum extraction volume of 1,000 tonnes
  • all written authorizations expire 30-days from date of issuance (if the material has not been extracted during that 30 day period, the applicant will be required to re-apply)
  • a written authorization does not provide the holder with exclusive use to the quarry site
  • all quarry operations are to be conducted in compliance with the Crown Land Quarries Policy
