General Accountability:
New Brunswick will continue to maintain contact with the lamp manufacturing industry to ensure that progress is made to meet the CWS. New Brunswick will continue to use low mercury/energy efficient fluorescent lights in government buildings, wherever possible, and will encourage large property owners to use such lamps.
Public Role:
A link to the CWS for Mercury Containing Lamps and other relevant information will be placed on the Department’s web site, where public feedback will be solicited.
Access to Information:
Information related to New Brunswick’s progress towards achieving the Canada-Wide Standards will be placed on the Department’s web site. Other information will be provided to the public upon request.
Verifiable Progress:
New Brunswick will explore the feasibility of a recycling program for fluorescent lights, and will explore such opportunities with its Solid Waste Commissions.
Co-Benefits:
Implementation of the CWS for Mercury Containing Lamps is expected to result in positive energy efficiency benefits within the Province.
