SAINT JOHN (GNB) – The official opening of Seaside Park Elementary School was held today in Saint John.

“Education is crucial to our economy and to the health of our families,” said Premier Brian Gallant. “We recognize the importance of having the proper infrastructure in place for our children and educators to have the best learning environment possible.”

The $20-million school, which is the first new school in the anglophone sector in Saint John in nearly 40 years, opened to students in September.

The school has about 470 students. It includes a cafeteria, gyms, music room, performing arts room, library and two multipurpose rooms, as well as 23 classrooms and other spaces.

“This new school offers a modern, safe and welcoming learning environment for students and staff,” said Education and Early Childhood Development Minister Brian Kenny. “We understand that education is a priority for New Brunswickers.”

The government’s 10-year education plans aim to improve educational outcomes and better prepare young people for the future. They set objectives in priority areas to create lifelong learners, support educational leaders and bring stability to the system.
