How to interpret this table:
- For Grade 4, 6, and 10 assessments, all students are included when calculating the results shown in the Provincial Assessment Results table, other than those who were absent when the assessment was administered. The percentage of students with exemptions is counted in the Below Appropriate Achievement category. In contrast to the results reported above, the table below presents the results of only students who wrote the assessments.
- For the ELPA, the percentage of students who are absent or exempt is not included in the calculation since this is a graduation requirement and students may attempt the assessment several times.
- NR = Not Reportable (too few students to report results in accordance with the Department’s confidentiality guidelines).
- Blank = Assessment was not administered (e.g., in 2019-20 most provincial assessments were cancelled due to COVID-19), or there were no students at the grade level assessed.
- 2020-21 results are not comparable to previous years. This is due to moving from matrix sampling methodology (students complete one of four partial versions of the assessment) to having each student write the full assessment. This does not pertain to the ELPA. 2020-21 results of the ELPA are comparable to last year.
- Students participating in the 2020-2021 Grade 4 French Immersion Reading Assessment entered the program in Grade 1. Students assessed in previous years entered the program in Grade 3.
- The results for the Grade 6 and Grade 10 French Immersion Reading assessments are calculated separately for students at the Grade 3 and Grade 6 entry levels.
In certain circumstances, it is necessary and appropriate for students to be exempted from participating in provincial assessments if the testing format does not allow demonstration of their learning, even with accommodations. Exemptions fall into three broad categories: academic, social/emotional and unforeseen. Typically, academic exemptions are sought for students following an individualized Personalized Learning Plan (PLP-I). Students who are exempt due to an PLP-I should be assessed on those goals that are set out in their Personalized Learning Plan (PLP).
