Government of New Brunswick

Finding affordable, quality child care for your children is often a difficult task for most parents, and many families struggle each month to pay for child care. Education and Early Childhood Development can help. Changes to our Day Care Assistance Program have increased the number of New Brunswick families eligible for financial assistance.

What is the Day Care Assistance Program?

The Day Care Assistance Program is designed to help your family access financially affordable, quality child care at a licensed child day care facility. Parents who do not have access to a licensed day care facility may be eligible for assistance under the Alternative Child Care Program.

Am I eligible?

There are certain conditions that will be considered when reviewing your application. If you are working, attending school, or undergoing medical treatment, you may be eligible for funding.

Full time = 4 or more hours per day.

Part time = fewer than 4 hours per day.

What does this mean to the average New Brunswick family?

A family with two preschoolers and a net income of $2,500 per month may be eligible for $1,115.50 per month if they access full time care at an approved child care facility.

A single parent with one child under the age of two years and a net income of $1,900 per month may be eligible for $655.50 a month toward their full time licensed child care costs.

How is my Day Care Assistance paid?

The day care assistance is paid directly to the child care provider. You will be responsible for paying any difference between the actual cost of your child care and the subsidy amount approved by Social Development.

This program is designed to help you with your monthly day care costs and is not intended to cover the total cost.

The provincial government is committed to supporting affordable, accessible, quality child care for children in New Brunswick by providing financial assistance to our licensed child care facilities through Social Development and by providing financial support to parents through the Day Care Assistance Program.

How do I apply?

Please contact your regional Social Development Office; financial help may be a phone call away.
