Government of New Brunswick

The purpose of the proposed undertaking is to improve deficiencies in the current Route 17 highway from Violette Brook area to Magee Road area in Victoria County. The project will be designed to meet present-day standards to improve safety, including flatter grades, creation of passing opportunities, upgrades to guiderail requirements and increased shoulder widths. The project is approximately 14 km in length, in two sections: a 10.5 km section from Violette Brook Area to the beginning of contract 10-0823, and a 3.5 km section beginning at Hammond Gate Road Area (the end of contract 10-0823) and ending at the Magee Road Area. A new alignment is planned to pass south of the existing alignment at Mud Brook.

The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure will be registering the project with the Department of Environment in accordance with Section 5(1) and Schedule “A” of the Environmental Impact Assessment Regulation.
