Government of New Brunswick

Thank you for your input, the consultation period is now closed.

The Department of Justice and Public Safety in collaboration with the Department of Finance is seeking stakeholder input as we work to modernize the Liquor Control Act. The New Brunswick Liquor Control Act has been in place since 1961. It governs various aspects of liquor control, sales and licensing. Over the years, a number of amendments were made to address different issues as they arose; however, further changes to reflect today’s standards, market expectations and consumer trends are being contemplated. In 2012, a full stakeholder engagement took place. We are looking to engage key stakeholders from each of our stakeholder groups in order to assist us bringing forward a comprehensive proposal to modernize the Liquor Control Act.

The purpose of this survey is to gather stakeholder input to inform and assist us in assessing what changes are required to modernize the legislation, regulations and policies. The objective is to identify best practices found in other Canadian jurisdictions, while keeping in line with Canada’s National Alcohol Strategy which may assist in informing options open to New Brunswick to modernize its approach to liquor licensing. The key goals are to address current issues and allow flexibility to meet future needs while providing an appropriate balance between economic opportunities and social responsibility.

In your responses, please give consideration to barriers to your business that you have encountered that are created as a result of current provisions under the Liquor Control Act or the regulations. Has your licensed establishment business plan been impacted in the areas of licensing, general operation or compliance/enforcement issues? This will help us to modernize the act to reduce barriers to industry, have a simplified and improved framework for licensing and enforcement and promote social responsibility and reduce risk to the public.

Please note that your individual responses will be kept confidential. Your input is very important to us. The results will be collated and an analysis performed. This work will result in options for Government’s consideration to modernize the Liquor Control Act. The link on the right is to the Liquor Control Act and regulations for your reference.

Thank you in advance for taking the time to participate in this survey.
