Information on what happens to your waste.
Solid waste comes from two sectors:
Waste from the residential and ICI sectors may be recycled, composted, or disposed of in landfills as garbage. The management of this waste is a shared responsibility for the collection, diversion, and disposal of these materials.
For information on solid waste services available in your area, check with your RSC.
For information on provincially regulated diversion programs, check Recycle NB.
Note: Some collection schedules may also be provided by your municipality.

Waste disposed of within regional landfills comes from the residential and Industrial, Commercial and Institutional (ICI) sectors. Much of this waste is made up of resources that could be made into new materials. An approximate breakdown of this waste is summarized below.

Construction, renovation and demolition (CRD) material generated in both the residential and ICI sectors is unique in that it poses little risk to the environment. These materials may be disposed of at an approved CRD site at a reduced rate due to lower operational costs at these sites.
Some types of CRD may be reused (i.e., wood), while others may be repurposed as clean fill (i.e., concrete and brick).
The materials listed below may be disposed of at an approved CRD site rather than landfilling:
1. Concrete, brick and untreated wood; 2. Siding, ceiling tile, gypsum board and insulation; 3. Asbestos that is not Friable Asbestos; 4. Solid roofing materials such as asphalt shingles; 5. Glass from doors and windows; 6. Metal, wood, fibreglass, and durable plastic structural materials; 7. Wiring and incandescent light fixtures that do not contain fluorescent tubing/lighting; 8. Toilets, bathtubs, wash basins and plumbing fixtures; 9. Floor coverings attached to a building during demolition; 10. Broken and aged asphalt or chip seal pavement; 11. Any mixture of 1 through 10; and 12. Other inert material approved by the Department that has been obtained during the construction, renovation or demolition of a building or structure.Types of construction, renovation and demolition material (click to expand)
