Transforming our waste into materials for tomorrow
The provincial Department of Environment and Local Government, in consultation with key stakeholders and other interested parties, has developed a Strategic Action Plan for Solid Waste Management in New Brunswick, 2023-2030, entitled A roadmap for transforming our waste into materials for tomorrow.
This plan outlines a path forward that reimagines the way New Brunswickers view and manage waste. The plan's vision is to reduce the amount of solid waste being disposed of in New Brunswick and to create opportunities to transform it into materials for tomorrow. The goal is that by 2030, New Brunswick will achieve an annual 40,000-tonne reduction in solid waste being regionally landfilled, while creating a foundation that allows the province to effectively work towards reaching further waste reductions in the future.

A five-page summary of the action plan’s 10 actions.
Each pillar has measurable, achievable, realistic, and time-specific department-led actions and outcomes that answer the following questions:
Once the plan's 10 actions and associated outcomes have been achieved, it will set the province on a path to be a leader in solid waste management in Canada.
Some actions can be implemented quickly, while others may require further collaboration, engagement and/or approval of government. A timeline for completing the actions is included in the plan.
An annual progress report on the plan will be completed by March 31st of each year. The progress reporting will begin in 2024 and the plan will be renewed every five years, except the first, as it is a seven-year plan.
