Childhood vaccination

Information for families on the recommended childhood vaccination schedule.

Childhood vaccination schedule

Your child will need to be vaccinated at different times in their life to get the best protection against vaccine-preventable diseases. Vaccination schedules are designed to provide protection before children are exposed to the disease.

Vaccination schedules may be different depending on the province or territory you live in. No matter where you live in Canada, childhood vaccines are provided for free and offered according to your province or territory's routine or catch-up schedules.

Vaccination is one of our most important public health tools. Over the past 50 years, vaccination has saved many lives in Canada and around the world. Some childhood diseases that were once common in Canada are now rare because of vaccines.

Vaccines will protect your child (and community) against serious illness and disease. It’s important for children to get all recommended vaccinations on time to get the best protection against vaccine preventable diseases.

Please consult our New Brunswick routine immunization schedule to find out which vaccines your child should receive.

Where to get your child immunized

Public Health Nurses and some primary care providers like your doctor or nurse practitioner provide vaccines to infants and young children across the province. Contact your primary care provider or the Public Health Office nearest you to schedule an appointment for your child’s immunization.
