The terms STD and STI are commonly used to refer to infections that are transmitted sexually. More recently, you might have also heard of STBBI, which also refers to infections transmitted through contact with blood or blood products. On this page you will see us using the broader term STBBIs.

Emergency contraceptive

Emergency contraception offers a back-up plan to prevent pregnancy after unprotected sex or a birth control method fails.

As there are different options that may be available to you, it is recommended you discuss with a primary care provider at a location below.

Where can I get emergency contraception in New Brunswick?

  • Health-care provider;
  • Pharmacy;
  • Walk-in clinic;
  • Sexual health clinic.

Sexual Assault Nurse examination

If you are or have been a victim of sexual or domestic violence and want support and a possible forensic examination: Please go to the Emergency Department at one of the hospitals listed below and ask for the SANE nurse.

  • You do not have to explain the reason for your hospital visit; just ask to see the SANE nurse.
  • You are NOT required to report the assault to police to receive the services of a SANE nurse.
  • No police officer is present during the forensic examination.
  • The SANE program will provide you with many options.
