Information about the Planet Youth surveys

The Planet Youth survey has been adapted for use in New Brunswick and will be done every other year with grade 10 students living in pilot site regions for the duration of the five-year pilot project.

Questions

The survey asks questions about risk and protective factors for youth substance use, including questions about peer group, family, leisure time, school and their community. There are also questions about rates, patterns and perceptions of substance use itself among youth.

Survey results

In New Brunswick, surveys will be done every other year for the duration of the five-year pilot project. Reports made from the anonymous survey data collected from grade 10 students in participating pilot sites will be returned 6-8 weeks after the survey to get the most up-to-date snapshot of what the youth substance use risk and protective factors are in our communities right now.

After the survey is completed

The survey data collected is analyzed by the researchers in Iceland and made into a report on the local risk and protective factors for substance use. This will help inform the development of solutions that promote the health and well-being of youth in the community.
