Hi there! We are proud to bring the Planet Youth program to the Acadian Peninsula – Alnwick. Planet Youth is a community prevention model that has long-term impacts. This model has shown that developing a strong community around youth is the most impactful and cost-effective way to promote their future well-being.
What we are doing in the Acadian Peninsula – Alnwick?
The objective of actions through Planet Youth is to create a strong community around youth by focusing entirely on the four core domains of children’s and teenagers’ environment: friends, family, school and leisure time.
Here are the main community goals and strategies of our local team’s 2024 action plan:
- Improve the quality standards of recreational offerings
- Forum on sports/recreation/culture in the Acadian Peninsula – Alnwick (fall 2024)
- Listen to, connect with and engage parents and families
- Summit for parents in the Acadian Peninsula (fall 2024)
- Promote youth involvement in the Planet Youth Acadian Peninsula – Alnwick project
- Financial support — youth-initiated projects
- Build community capacity
- Training — support for partners to raise awareness about Planet Youth objectives
Work teams have also been created in four communities in the region: Caraquet, Alnwick, Shippagan and Tracadie.
Planet Youth Acadian Peninsula – Alnwick brings together various members of the community, including the following:
- Teachers
- Public Health nurse
- Mental health nurse
- RCMP community officer
- Parents
- Addiction services staff
- Social worker
- Medical health officer
- Community development officer
- Regional Development Corporation project manager
- Regional Service Commission member
- Representative of youth centres (centres d’animation jeunesse)
- Local youth
