Local Governance Orientation

January – February 2023

Message from the Minister:

Thank you to all those who have taken part in our local governance reform efforts over the last two years. Your commitment to strengthening your communities is a great example of what makes New Brunswick a great place to live.

As Minister of Local Government and Local Governance Reform, I am pleased to invite you to participate in a dynamic and important learning event – Local Governance Orientation 2023.

Eight online sessions are being offered to elected officials and administrators at no cost. They will provide you with an overview of the key features of local governance: governance and service delivery, roles and responsibilities, community financing, and leadership in times of change. Most of the sessions will be recorded and posted on the Department’s webpage for reference purposes. A ninth in-person session is being planned for early spring 2023, with more details to follow in the coming weeks. A certificate of completion will also be provided to those who participate in the nine sessions.

In addition, I will also be connecting in person with officials from several cities in the coming weeks to discuss next steps in relation to local governance reform in their communities.

We believe these sessions will ensure that elected officials and administrators have the tools they need to effectively carry out their role as local government officials.

Please see below for registration and orientation-related information for the eight online sessions.
