FREDERICTON (GNB) – Public Health reported today that 76.2 per cent of eligible New Brunswickers are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and 85.1 per cent have received their first dose of a vaccine. There are four people hospitalized due to the virus, with three in an intensive care unit.

An individual 70-79 in Zone 1 (Moncton region) has died as a result of COVID-19. This brings the total number of COVID-19-related deaths in the province to 47.

“I am saddened to learn that another person has lost their life as a result of COVID-19,” said Health Minister Dorothy Shephard. “On behalf of all New Brunswickers, I offer my deepest sympathies to the family and friends of this individual.”

“I ask all New Brunswickers to join me in extending heartfelt condolences to those who are grieving this loss,” said Dr. Jennifer Russell, chief medical officer of health. “In keeping with privacy legislation, we will not be disclosing the person’s vaccination status. The aim of Public Health is to provide information that helps other people protect themselves without allowing individual cases to be identified.”

If you have not yet had your first or second dose, you are asked to go to a walk-in clinic or book an appointment through a participating pharmacy or at a Vitalité or Horizon health network clinic as soon as possible.

All eligible New Brunswickers can book their second-dose appointments for a date that is at least 28 days after their first dose.

Those attending a vaccination clinic are asked to bring their Medicare card, a signed consent form and, for those receiving their second dose, a copy of the record of immunization provided after receiving their first dose.

Four-day total of 54 new cases and 54 new recoveries

Public Health reported there were 13 new cases of COVID-19 on Sept. 4, 13 on Sept. 5, 15 on Sept. 6 and 13 today, for a four-day total of 54 new cases.

There have been 54 recoveries since Sept. 3. The number of active cases is 125.

Since July 1, 458 of the province’s 519 cases – or 88 per cent – were not fully vaccinated.

The 13 new cases in Zone 1 (Moncton region) are as follows:

• two people 19 and under;
• seven people 20-29;
• two people 40-49;
• a person 60-69; and
• a person 80-89.

Four cases are contacts of previously confirmed cases, one case is travel-related, six are under investigation and two are community transmission cases.

The 11 new cases in Zone 3 (Fredericton region) are as follows:

• two people 19 and under;
• three people 20-29;
• a person 40-49;
• three people 50-59;
• a person 60-69; and
• a person 80-89.

Three cases are contacts of previously confirmed cases, six are travel-related and two are under investigation.

The 11 new cases in Zone 4 (Edmundston region) are as follows:

• five people 19 and under;
• four people 30-39;
• a person 60-69; and
• a person 70-79.

Seven cases are contacts of previously confirmed cases and four are under investigation.

The eight cases in Zone 5 (Campbellton region) are as follows:

• three people 20-29;
• two people 30-39;
• two people 50-59; and
• a person 60-69.

Six cases are contacts of previously confirmed cases, one case is travel-related and one is under investigation.

The four cases in Zone 6 (Bathurst region) are as follows:

• two people 19 and under; and
• two people 20-29.

Three cases are contacts of previously confirmed cases and one is under investigation.

The seven cases in Zone 7 (Miramichi region) are as follows:

• a person 19 and under;
• two people 20-29;
• a person 30-39;
• a person 50-59; and
• two people 60-69.

Six cases are contacts of previously confirmed cases and one case is travel-related.
