Emergency care

Emergency departments provide patients with urgent medical conditions.

If you believe you are experiencing an emergency, call 9-1-1. Paramedics will use their clinical judgement to determine whether transport to the hospital is required or if other health care options are better suited to your needs.

The Emergency Department (ED) provides emergency care for patients with urgent medical conditions. A triage system is in place in the emergency room, where the sickest and most vulnerable patients are cared for first.

When to go to the emergency room

If you or someone in your care has an urgent medical condition or is experiencing a health crisis, go to the nearest ED or call 9-1-1.
