New Brunswick Research and Productivity Council
Members
Overview: The role and composition of the New Brunswick Research and Productivity Council (the Council or RPC) is set out in the Research and Productivity Act (the Act). The mandate of the Council is to promote, stimulate and expedite continuing improvement in productive efficiency and expansion in the various sectors of the New Brunswick economy by assisting, encouraging and conducting research, studies and investigations in the field of industrial and scientific technology and cooperating and acting in conjunction with other organizations and agencies, public and private in the implementation of programs.
The Council shall consist of nine to 13 members, who shall be appointed by the Lieutenant-Governor in Council including three to four voting members who are deputy heads, and not more than nine voting members appointed on the recommendation of the Council. Additionally, the Lieutenant-Governor in Council shall appoint from among the members of the Council a Chair and a Vice-Chair.

The Provincial government is currently seeking to fill a number of board member positions from academia and the private sector.
Expressions of interest are invited to fill these positions, but may also be used to fill future vacancies
Qualifications / Commitment:
RPC’s critical role as New Brunswick’s provincial research organization requires visionary board members with an appreciation for science and technology, an understanding of New Brunswick industry and a conviction that innovation is crucial to the success of business.
A key objective of the board is to oversee RPC’s strategic direction within the organization’s mission and for its long-term sustainability. In keeping with this objective, board members should be experienced as organizational leaders, business owners, and/or corporate executives (C-level, General Manager or President). Additionally, board members are expected to provide insight regarding emerging trends and future direction of technology that can, or will, impact New Brunswick business. Ideally, the board and its members strive to have diversity and representation of key provincial industry sectors. Based on the current composition of the Board, there is a need for a member with experience or a background in finance, accounting or auditing, small and medium size enterprises, science and engineering and knowledge of research and technology sectors.
Board members are not involved with the day-to-day operations of RPC.
Essential and Asset Qualifications:
The composition of the Board’s gender and linguistic representation, as well as the cultural and geographic diversity of the province is a consideration for appointment.
Conditions / Compensation:
Council members serve on a volunteer basis. Travel expenses are reimbursed based on RPC travel expense guidelines.
Board members must be available to attend four board meetings annually which are held in January, April, July and October. The board members must follow the policies and procedures of the board, including RPC’s Corporate Governance Policy, as well as strict confidentiality and conflict of interest policies. Board orientation will be provided.
Travel may be required to attend board meetings. The majority of meetings are held at RPC’s facilities in Fredericton or virtually, with occasional meetings in other parts of the province.
