Collaborating extensively with governments, safety organizations, workers, and employers to foster a safe work culture in New Brunswick, WorkSafeNB cares about New Brunswickers and their safety, treating each worker, each employer, each claim and each workplace incident and inspection with the utmost care.

With representation throughout the province, WorkSafeNB’s employees help workers injured on the job recover safely and strive to provide clients – workers or employers – with exceptional service.

Current position to be filled:

WorkSafeNB is seeking the next Board Chairperson to provide leadership to the Board of Directors.

The Board Chairperson at WorkSafeNB provides leadership to the governance efforts, ensuring strategic direction and adherence to legislative requirements and strategic planning. This pivotal role entails collaborating with board members, the President and CEO, government, and stakeholders to fulfill the organization’s mission and vision. Responsibilities include providing seasoned visionary guidance, emphasizing long-term goals, administering affairs by relevant acts, overseeing financial health, managing resources, facilitating effective board meetings, and supporting the President and CEO. The ideal candidate possesses proven executive or board-level leadership experience, familiarity with workers’ compensation and safety regulations, as well as strong communication skills and ethical standards.

Key Responsibilities:

As the ideal candidate, you are a self-directed and collaborative senior leader who understands the role of a policy-based board and decision-making process. You help set the strategic direction for WorkSafeNB while valuing diversity and championing inclusion so that the interests of all New Brunswickers are reflected in decisions. You are ready and willing to provide leadership to the board and build, maintain, and appreciate relationships internally and externally by energizing conversations and engagement to gain a greater understanding of the needs of New Brunswickers.

As the ideal candidate, you are an impartial person and you have broad experience in executive and senior leadership roles in complex environments with diverse partners and interested parties. You may possess experience in law, medicine, finance, or insurance, with previous experience serving on boards of management and are familiar with working within a legislative mandate. With a strong sense of social responsibility, you are seeking to contribute further to New Brunswick workers through your willingness to accept the challenge of this critical role. You possess exceptional listening, communication, consensus-building, facilitation skills, an innovative mindset, and exceptional partnership and relationship skills.

Conditions / Compensation:

The Board Chairperson receives a per diem of $400 plus reimbursement for travel expenses in accordance with Government of New Brunswick Travel Directive AD 2801.

The time commitment is about 15 to 20 days per year, which includes one board meeting per quarter, pre-meetings, bi-weekly meetings with the CEO, attendance at certain events, etc.
