Crown Lands and Forests Advisory Board

Chairperson and up to five (5) members

Overview:

The Crown Lands and Forests Advisory Board (the Board), established under the Crown Lands and Forests Act (the Act), is responsible to the Minister of Natural Resources and Energy Development (DNRED). The main object of the Advisory Board is to advise the Minister on matters relating to the management of Crown Lands and Forests.

The voting members of the Board may consist of:

  • the Chairperson;
  • the Deputy Minister of DNRED as Vice-Chairperson; and
  • up to five (5) additional members.

Current position(s) to be filled:

The provincial government is currently seeking to fill the position of Chairperson and up to five (5) member positions. Expressions of interest are invited to fill these positions and may also be used to fill future vacancies. Please indicate if you would like to be considered for the Chairperson position in your application.

Qualifications/Commitment:

Candidates should have the following competencies and qualifications that have been identified as essential to fulfil the mandate of the Board:

  • strong communication and interpersonal skills;
  • strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills;
  • work effectively with others and manage conflict constructively;
  • a reputation for honesty, integrity and fairness; and
  • background/experience in one or more of the following:
    • accounting / finance;
    • engineering / forestry
    • legal / regulatory;
    • business acumen;
    • governance / leadership;
    • academic background.

Candidates for the position of Chairperson:

The Chairperson will have demonstrated exemplary evidence of diplomacy, critical and balanced thinking, strong communication and interpersonal skills; strong problem-solving skills; work effectively with others and manage conflict constructively; a reputation for honesty, integrity and fairness.

Essential and Asset Qualifications:

Before making appointments to the Board, consideration will be given to the necessary skills and qualifications required by the Board as a whole, to fulfill the mandate and shall have regard to Indigenous, gender and linguistic representation, as well as cultural and geographic diversity.

Conditions/Compensation:

The Board shall meet at least once a year. The Chairperson shall be remunerated $150 for each day (or part of a day) they sit. Other members are remunerated $100 for each day (or part of a day) they attend board or committee meetings. All members, including the Chairperson, shall be reimbursed for travel expenses incurred in the performance of their duties at a sitting of the Board or at meetings of a committee of the Board.

Note: The remuneration rates are currently under review.
