The department registers every New Brunswick beekeeper on an annual basis as part of a legal requirement as stated in the Apiary Inspection Act for New Brunswick.
Every person (or group) in New Brunswick who owns the honey bee, Apis mellifera Linnaeus, or has these bees in his/her possession.
Each year, every New Brunswick beekeeper, is required to complete an application form to keep bees and send it to the Provincial Apiarist at the department by May 31. The Provincial Apiarist then completes the "Certificate of registration and receipt to keep bees" form, assigns a registration number, and sends it to the beekeeper. This certificate is valid until May 31 the following year. There is no fee for the application and registration.
