Physicians - Practice Sharing Program
The Practice Sharing Program provides two or more physicians, of the same specialty and in the same region, an opportunity to share one or more positions. The physicians sharing the practice must comply with a remuneration limit with respect to the total income earned on a fee-for-service basis.
Fee-for-service (FFS) physicians of the same specialty and in the same region who wish to share a practice.
A physician who currently has an established practice wishes to share the position with a new physician.
The FFS earnings of the physicians sharing the position will not be higher than the FFS earnings of the existing physician using the average of the three best years out of the last five years;
If a physician has been practicing less than three full years, this will be treated like a new position.
Two physicians who have not yet established a practice in a region would like to do so and share a position.
New position : The FFS earnings of the physicians sharing the position will not be higher than the FFS upper benchmark value for their specialty
Replacement position: the FFS earnings of the physicians sharing the position will not be higher than the FFS earnings of the previous physician using the average of the three best years of the last five years or the FFS upper benchmark value for their specialty, whichever is greater.
Excluded from the remuneration limit are any earnings the physicians make under any locum tenens or sessional basis.
Physicians participating in this program are required to sign a contract.
Physicians interested in participating in this program, should contact the Department of Health and the Medical Affairs Office of the Regional Health Authority to request the establishment of such an arrangement and confirm eligibility.
