Overview

The Government of New Brunswick, in cooperation with the New Brunswick Medical Society and the province's Regional Health Authorities, offers each year, the summer observership program for medical students.

The Summer Observership Program is designed to introduce 1st & 2nd year medical students to practice settings in New Brunswick. While participating in this program, 1st & 2nd year medical students will have the opportunity to observe physicians and other health care practitioners in a variety of settings.

Eligibility

The program is open to 1st & 2nd year New Brunswick medical students. Preference is therefore given to New Brunswick residents. Consideration will be given to non-resident medical students who express an interest in practicing in New Brunswick, depending on the program participation rate and available capacity.

Description

The Summer observership program is designed to introduce 1st & 2nd year medical students to practice settings in New Brunswick. The Observerships provides medical students the opportunity to gain valuable experience through exposure to general practitioners, specialists and other health care practitioners working in a variety of settings.

Observerships will takes place between the months of May and August 2018. Students will be paid an hourly rate of pay of $13.60* for up to a maximum 37.5 hours/week.

Medical Students may request to participate in the program for a minimum of 2 weeks, and up to a maximum of 6 weeks. The program will aim to ensure that a maximum number of students can participate in the program based on the amount of applications received and the program capacity.

When submitting your application, please indicate your desired number of weeks as well as your preferred locations. You may indicate more than one. Note: transportation and accommodations is the responsibility of the students as it is not provided under this program.

Observerships will be allocated based on the order of receipt of applications, site capacity and available periods. However since space is limited, placements are not guaranteed.

All applicants will be advised of the status of their application via email within 30 days of the application deadline.
