    • Overview

    The Vital Statistics Branch registers marriages and provides marriage certificates for marriages occuring in the Province of New Brunswick.

    Eligibility

    Any person who provides the correct information and fee, providing the certificate is not used for any unlawful or improper use.

    IMPORTANT: A person applying for a marriage certificate who is not one of the persons named on the certificate, must provide written consent of one of the persons named on the certificate. The consent must be dated and signed by the person named on the certificate. This written consent must be faxed or mailed along with the application to Vital Statistics in order for the application to be processed. Certificates will not be issued without this written consent.

    For example: If Mike Smith is applying for the marriage certificate of Jane Doe and John Smith, Mike must provide signed and written consent from Jane or John stating that consent is given for Mike to apply and receive the marriage certificate.

    Exceptions:
    If someone is applying for a deceased person's marriage certificate, a written consent is not possible. Please submit proof of death with your application.

    Description

    The information required to obtain a marriage certificate is:
    name of parties at time of marriage, date of marriage, place of marriage, relationship to persons named on certificate, reason why certificate is required, daytime phone number and return address.

    The marriage certificate includes;

    name of the parties at the time of marriage
    date of marriage
    place of marriage
    sex
    registration date
    registration number
    date issued
    province or country of birth of each party.

    A photographic print of a marriage registration is available with the written consent of one of the parties to the marriage.


    Method of Payment: Cheque or money order payable to Service New Brunswick, Visa or MasterCard (expiry date and signature required).

    Fees

    Unless otherwise specified, Fees exclude the harmonized sales tax (HST).
