I am pleased to rise this morning and to officially announce the theme for Heritage Week 2012.

This year’s theme was chosen in recognition of the bicentennial of the War of 1812, and the theme will be War and Peace.

The goal of heritage week is to provide opportunities to celebrate our shared past and our freedom.

During Heritage Week 2012, which runs from Feb. 13 to 20, I encourage New Brunswickers to celebrate their diverse heritage and reflect upon the fact that our freedom is something we should cherish.

National Flag of Canada Day will also be celebrated on Feb. 15, and National Heritage Day is Feb. 20.

Heritage Week is a week when various activities are organized and undertaken by numerous associations and many provincial schools.

To assist in planning activities, I would also like to let interested parties know that Heritage Week 2012 planning kits will be available next week.
