FREDERICTON (CNB) – The Department of Tourism and Parks is closing six provincial parks to day use from Friday night, Sept. 3, to Sunday morning, Sept. 5.

The affected parks include Murray Beach, the Anchorage, New River Beach and Herring Cove. Parlee Beach and the Hopewell Rocks will be closed to all visitors.

Tourists and campers are encouraged to make alternate accommodations directly, to consult with park staff, or to visit one of the visitor information centres (VICs). Accommodations and information are also online.

Parks staff and staff at the VICs have been notifying visitors of the impending storm and of their options while encouraging them to use extreme care during the weekend.

Provincial parks will be fully staffed and prepared to help keep park visitors who are already camping on-site as safe as possible.
