FREDERICTON (GNB) – In response to the fire in Fort McMurray, Alta, NB Liquor is partnering with the Canadian Red Cross to raise funds for the relief efforts.

Beginning today, the public can support the Canadian Red Cross disaster fund to help residents in Fort McMurray by making a donation through NB Liquor’s prompt-at-cash campaign at any of the 44 corporate stores. The campaign continues until 9 p.m. on Saturday, May 7.

“New Brunswick and Alberta have a close relationship,” said Brian Harriman, president and CEO of NB Liquor. “Many New Brunswickers have friends and family that live in Fort McMurray. I have no doubt that many people want to help and show their generosity with a financial contribution in support of the Alberta fire emergency appeal.”

NB Liquor has partnered with the Canadian Red Cross in New Brunswick on many relief efforts over the years such as the floods in Perth-Andover and St. Stephen; the shooting of RCMP officers in Moncton; and the 2010 earthquake in Haiti.

“Our teams in Alberta will be supporting those evacuated from their homes in a number of ways including equipping and staffing emergency shelters, and we have trained volunteers here in New Brunswick ready to deploy to assist if needed,” said Bill Lawlor, director of the Canadian Red Cross in New Brunswick. “In the meantime, New Brunswickers looking to help can do so financially through the NB Liquor campaign or through other channels including online at www.redcross.ca or toll-free at 1-800-418-1111.”
