Premier's message / National Acadian Day13 August 2012
FREDERICTON (GNB) – The following message was released today by Premier David Alward on the occasions of National Acadian Day:
On Aug. 15, Acadians across New Brunswick will join fellow Acadians throughout North America and throughout the world in celebration of their history, determination and vitality.
More than 400 years have passed since the founding of Acadia. We all should pause and recognize the historic and innovative contributions Acadians made and are making to the economic, cultural and social fabric of our great province. This special day is a chance for all of us to demonstrate our pride in the vibrant, modern and diverse culture that is modern Acadie.
Aug. 15 was chosen as National Acadian Day during the first national Acadian convention, held in our province in 1881. As premier, I am proud of the accomplishments of Acadians and the vital place that Acadian culture plays in making our province such a wonderful place to call home.
I invite you to join my family and me in wishing all Acadians and all New Brunswickers a happy National Acadian Day.
Bonne fête des Acadiens!
