Investment made in Acadian cultural performance07 August 2012
EDMUNDSTON (GNB) – The provincial government is providing $60,000 in assistance to a cultural performance known as L'Acadie des terres et forêts (Acadia of lands and forests), to be presented this summer at the Parc de la République in Edmundston.
"The provincial government, through the Department of Culture, Tourism and Healthy Living and the Department of Intergovernmental Affairs, is proud to support this regional performance of importance to the Edmundston community," said Madawaska-les-Lacs MLA Yvon Bonenfant. "The show highlights young talent and provides them with an exceptional opportunity for artistic enrichment."
Bonenfant was appearing on behalf of Culture, Tourism and Healthy Living Minister Trevor Holder.
L'Acadie des terres et forêts, created in 2002 by artist, educator and producer Étienne Deschênes, is presented every year to introduce the local culture to visitors and residents of the Edmundston area. The show has been performed more than 350 times and has been seen by about 200,000 spectators. It is expected to be an important element of the 2014 World Acadian Congress.
