FREDERICTON (GNB) – Fire service representatives will hear guest speakers, share best practices and see specialized products during the 35th annual convention for the New Brunswick Association of Fire Chiefs (NBAFC), May 25 - 27, in Fredericton.

“This convention is an excellent opportunity for members of the fire service to continue their professional development,” said Public Safety Minister and Solicitor General Robert Trevors. “Their commitment to ongoing learning helps them to provide the best service possible to New Brunswickers.”

The event is being hosted by the Capital District Firefighters Association in conjunction with the Department of Public Safety's Office of the Fire Marshal.

“Our association represents 172 fire departments, and this is an important event for our members,” said Memramcook Fire Chief and NBAFC president Raymond Leblanc. “It gives us the chance to discuss issues of mutual interest, and interact with our fire service colleagues from throughout the province.”

The convention features presentations on leadership, current topics and challenges in the fire service; social activities, and a memorial service for fallen firefighters. It concludes Sunday, May 27, at 10 a.m. with the Provincial Firefighters' Games in the parking lot of the Regent Mall.

More than 200 delegates are expected to participate, as well as 50 suppliers of fire safety equipment and accessories.
