FREDERICTON (GNB) – The following statement was issued by Health Minister Madeleine Dubé in recognition of National Nursing Week, May 7-13:

National Nursing Week was first celebrated in 1985 to highlight the contribution of nurses to the well-being of the Canadian public. The week provides an opportunity to celebrate the positive impact nurses make upon the lives and well-being of New Brunswickers.

Our nurses are on the front lines of our health-care system. They are often the first health professionals we encounter when we seek health care and information. They are in our hospitals, health clinics, nursing homes, doctors' offices, schools, homes, workplaces and communities.

The provincial government is committed to making sure that the residents of this province continue to have access to appropriate nursing resources, and that nurses have good working conditions and access to continuing education.

I encourage all New Brunswickers to join me in recognizing National Nursing Week and in celebrating the efforts of our valued nurses.
