FREDERICTON (CNB) – The provincial government is seeking public input on whether licence plates should have a tagline.

In March, the provincial government discontinued its use of the slogan Be...in this place, that had been used on the government logo, on licence plates, and on most government documents.  While there will be no new government-wide slogan, the idea of a tagline on licence plates is being considered.

"We are committed to engaging citizens and this is another opportunity for us to do so," said Public Safety Minister and Solicitor General Robert Trevors. "New Brunswickers made it clear that they did not like the former slogan and we listened. However, we want to know whether they want a tagline on their licence plates, as is the case in many other jurisdictions."

Before 1972, New Brunswick licence plates used the tagline Picture Province. From 1972 to 2009, there was no tagline and from 2009 to this past March, the tagline Be...in this place was used.

When existing stocks of Be...in this place licence plates have been used, the slogan will not be printed on new plates. The provincial government has launched a website where New Brunswickers can indicate whether the tagline should be replaced on license plates and, if so, what the new tagline should be.
