National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women
A memorial service to commemorate the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women was held today in Fredericton in memory of the 14 young women killed at l'École Polytechnique in Montreal on Dec. 6, 1989. A candle was lit in memory of each young woman who died, as well as a candle tied with purple ribbon to represent all women who have lost their lives as a result of violence. From left: Pam Lynch, legislative secretary responsible for women's issues; Premier David Alward; and Justice Minister and Attorney General Marie-Claude Blais, who is also the minister responsible for women's issues.
