Are falls occurring at home?
Falls are the leading cause of injuries among Canadians 65 years and over.³ If you fall often, there may be many reasons. During the home visit, the reviewer will examine with you possible causes for frequent falls. Preventative actions will be discussed with you to limit your risk of falls.
How can home safety allow me to retain my independence?
Approximately half of all falls that lead to hospitalization among seniors occur at home.⁴ Keeping up with home repairs and making adaptations to your home are key factors in preventing injuries. During the visit, the reviewer will discuss preventative measures that you can take to make your home safer.
What resources are available to me to make my home safer?
Once you have had the review completed, you may be eligible for a grant (up to $1500) for minor home repairs and adaptations that will enhance your home safety. The reviewer will advise you how to apply and will also provide you with materials on how to identify safety hazards and what to do about them.
