Do you see things in your community that you would like to support, build on or change?  Do you ask yourself, “How can I make a difference?”  Volunteering is a way for you to answer those questions.

Volunteering your time, energy, skills and feelings is a way to contribute to your community.  There are many ways that you can help.  You can:

  • Get involved in community events
  • Volunteer at a food bank or shelter
  • Fundraise for an important cause
  • Plan a special project that meets a community need

Volunteering can provide many benefits to youth such as:  enhancing personal growth, enhancing career opportunities and it’s a great way of giving and receiving.

Volunteer Connections: New Strategies for Involving Youth has been written by Volunteer Canada to help organization personnel think through the benefits, and challenges, of getting young people involved as volunteers. The manual intends to encourage reflection, and perhaps even some debate, while offering practical suggestions and resources for moving forward.
