Basic Level Training

 

BEM (Basic Emergency Management)

This self-study pre-requisite course is structured to provide the participant with a broad base from which to carry out planning and operations for emergencies. The theory of the planning process is introduced and operating procedures are applied to a spectrum of emergency scenarios. The management, command, control and co-ordination functions necessary to meet emergencies are examined using case studies. This is an entry level course and is considered a prerequisite for advanced Emergency Management level courses, such as the Emergency Operation Centre Course.

ICS 100

Incident Command System 100 is an Introduction to the Incident Command System and is intended for personnel assigned to an incident or event who have a minimum requirement for understanding ICS. The I-100 course is an online self-study, and students are required to complete a final exam.This course reviews the ICS organization, basic terminology, and common responsibilities. It will provide basic information about the Incident Command System to enable you to work in a support role at an incident or event, or to support an incident from an off-site location. This is an entry level course and along with the BEM is considered a prerequisite for more advanced emergency management training offered centrally by NB EMO, such as the Emergency Operations Centre course (EOC). Advanced Level Training

 

ESM (Emergency Site Management)

 

This course prepares emergency management practitioners to carry out their roles as members of an emergency site team. In an emergency situation, new relationships must be established quickly between community organizations, outside agencies, volunteers and other entities from various levels of government who might not normally work together. This advanced level course covers the principles of a coordinated multi-service and multi-jurisdictional response at an emergency site.

  • Prerequisites: Basic Emergency Management and Incident Command System 100 
  • Fee: $350

 

EOC (Emergency Operations Centre)

This course is designed to enable planners and officials to operate effectively as staff members of an Emergency Operations Centre (EOC). The course introduces basic principles of emergency operations and control, and introduces standard operating procedures to be applied in an EOC as well as practical aspects of organizing and exercising an Emergency Operations Centre. To be conducted effectively, this course must have between 10 and 12 participants. If these numbers are not attained, the course may be cancelled.

EPI (Emergency Public Information)

This course focuses on media relations and media performance tips in the context of crisis. It includes an overview of the different types of, and characteristics of crisis, as well as special media considerations specific to crisis. This course is delivered as a 2-day package. The course will include a mixture of theory and practice. To be conducted effectively, this course must have between 8 and 10 participants. If these numbers are not attained, the course may be cancelled.
