FREDERICTON (GNB) – Premier Brian Gallant and members of cabinet are meeting today with David MacNaughton, Canada’s ambassador to the United States.

"Robust trade between the United States and Canada is crucial for the New Brunswick economy. With significant trade files being discussed such as NAFTA, the softwood lumber agreement, and the Canadian dairy industry we must stay on top of what's happening in the United States.,” said Gallant. “The briefing that Ambassador MacNaughton will provide cabinet will be helpful."‎

The meeting will focus on opportunities for New Brunswick to strengthen relations with its southern neighbour including how to best work together on issues of common interest such as trade, climate change and innovation.

"The premier and I are talking about how Canadians in New Brunswick can do a better job of communicating the very real and specific ways that they help make the Canada-United States relationship stronger," said MacNaughton.

The United States is New Brunswick’s largest export destination and trading partner.
