Reading Proficiency Evaluation - Certification
The Reading Test assesses your ability to read French second language. The test consists of 30 texts followed by two types of questions. A Certificate of Proficiency is issued within 10 business days of the evaluation and remains valid for 5 years.
The evaluation service is available to all New Brunswick residents and non-residents who need proof of writing proficiency for employment or for admission to a post-secondary institution in New Brunswick.
The Reading Proficiency Evaluation takes approximately 1½ hours, including administration time, during which time you are given the opportunity to demonstrate your ability to read the target language. The evaluation is done in person and any applicable travel costs are the individual’s responsibility.
If you wish to have a reading proficiency evaluation, you must send a completed application form, along with a $45 money order payable to the Minister of Finance, to the Department. Upon receipt of the request and payment, you will be contacted to set up an evaluation date.
