    Eligibility

The National Student Loans Service Centre administers these repayment assistance measures on behalf of the Governments of Canada and New Brunswick. Application forms are available from the National Student Loans Service Centre who determines eligibility for these programs.

    Description

You are responsible for repaying all the money you borrow to fund your education. However, should you experience difficulties in meeting your repayment obligations, government programs are available to provide assistance and help you reduce your total student loan debt. The three repayment assistance measures are:

    • Revision of Terms: A Revision of Terms can reduce the monthly payment you are required to make by extending the period over which you will repay your loan.

    • Repayment Assistance Plan: The new Repayment Assistance Plan (RAP) is an optional program available for student loan borrowers who are having difficulty making their student loan payments. Under the plan, the amount you pay back will be based on how much you earn, how much you owe on your student loans, and on your family size.

The National Student Loans Service Centre administers RAP on behalf of the governments of Canada and New Brunswick. If you are experiencing financial difficulty, contact the National Student Loans Service Centre before missing a payment, because some repayment assistance measures may not be available to you if your loan is returned to government for collection.
