Oral Proficiency Evaluation - Certification
The Oral Proficiency Evaluation is an assessment of your overall ability to communicate in French or English in both professional and social settings. A Certificate of Proficiency is issued within 10 days of the evaluation and remains valid for a three year period.
The evaluation service is available to all New Brunswick residents and to non-residents who need proof of oral proficiency for employment or for admission to a post-secondary institution in New Brunswick.
The Oral Proficiency Evaluation is a 30 to 45 minute interview during which time you will be given the opportunity to demonstrate your ability to converse in the target language on various topics, such as education, employment, family, residence, pasttimes, current events, etc. The conversation is recorded for quality control and is confidential.
The evaluation is done face to face or over the telephone. You will be responsible for applicable travel expenses and long distance charges.
If you wish to have an oral proficiency evaluation, you must send a completed request form to the Department, Apprenticeship and Certification, along with a certified cheque or money order, payble to the Minister of Finance. Upon receipt of the request and the payment, you will be contacted to set up an evaluation date.
