As part of this year’s Disability Awareness Week (DAW) the organizing committee would like to commend businesses around the province for their efforts to make their work places more accessible to persons with disability. These efforts could include a wide variety of initiatives, from hiring persons with disabilities to adding ramps or automatic doors within the establishment.

2017 marks the 30th Anniversary of DAW in New Brunswick, and we would like to take this opportunity to bring awareness to the outstanding efforts being made by companies’ province wide to make their atmospheres more accessible.

If you are an owner, manager, employee, or person who frequents a business that has taken steps to become more accessible to persons with disabilities, we want to hear from you!

Here is what we need to know:

  • Where the business is, and what type of service they provide;
  • A quick note on the efforts being made and the positive impact that has arisen;
  • Photos or videos of the accessibility measures (if possible); and
  • Any additional information you would like us to know about.

The Centre d'Activités La Ressource de Saint-Quentin Inc. is a resource for adults living with a mental illness. They have also members who have impaired mobility. Before May 2017, the facility was not accessible to our members with a physical disability.  In January 2017, they received a grant and couple with donation, they were able to build a wheelchair ramp and renovate the bathroom. They are proud of this project as the centre is now accessible to all their members.

All submissions will be featured on our Social Media accounts, as well as on the website for the Premier’s Council on the Status of Disabled Persons to be publicly recognized for promoting accessibility and inclusion in New Brunswick.

DISCLAIMER: Disability Awareness Week and the Premier’s Council on the Status of Disabled Persons do not sponsor, promote, or endorse any of the businesses featured on this page or their products.
