FREDERICTON (GNB) – An air quality advisory issued by public health officials remains in place for the Oromocto area.

The fires near 5th Canadian Division Support Base Gagetown remain unchanged from yesterday and due to the smoke, some air pollutant levels near the source remain high.

In Fredericton, the air quality is now within health guidelines and the public can resume their normal activities. Air quality health risks in the city are currently low.

Health advice issued yesterday remains in place for people who can taste or smell smoke in the air:

  • Be aware of your symptoms.
  • Reduce levels of physical activity as necessary.
  • Consider sheltering indoors with windows closed.
  • Turn air exchangers off so as to avoid bringing outside air into the home.

The Department of Health will continue to assess the air quality and weather conditions to determine any risk to public health.
