Government of New Brunswick

A tax status statement discloses the amount of liability that is due and payable by any taxpayer or collector of taxes for Tobacco Tax, Gasoline and Motive Fuel Tax, Amusement Tax, Pari-Mutuel Tax and the former Sales Tax as of the date of issuance of the statement, according to the records maintained by the tax commissioner. Such statements are issued in accordance with the Revenue Administration Act and Regulations.

The primary benefit of this statement is that it discloses the amount of any lien for the above mentioned tax types against a given name at a specific point in time. If an audit is performed, the outcome could still result in a liability after a statement has been issued.

Upon payment of the fee, any person may request a tax status statement for a given company or individual name. Statements are normally issued within five business days.

Fee:

The fee is $20 per statement and must accompany the request.

To Make a Request:

There is no special form to apply and a separate request for each tax type is not required. One request per account name (company or individual) is sufficient. The provincial business number (PBN) would be of assistance, but is optional.

Requests may be made in person at any local Service New Brunswick Centre or by mail to the Department of Finance, Accounts Receivable Unit, P.O. Box 3000, Fredericton, N.B., E3B 5H1. A written request must contain the requester’s name and mailing information or fax number, depending on the desired delivery channel (mail or fax), and the name of the company or individual for which information is sought. Please allow five days for processing.

As the volume of requests received in a year for this service is low, at the present time this service is not offered online.
